Why consider weight loss surgery?

Bariatric, or weight loss surgery, is not for everyone. The first step is to figure out your Body Mass Index, or BMI. Enter your height and weight into the calculator on the right to determine your BMI. The second step is to know if you have any weight-related health problems like Type II diabetes or high blood pressure.

If You Do Have Medical Problems Related to Your Weight

If you have medical problems that are related to your weight then you may be a candidate for weight loss surgery if your BMI is 35 or more. Medical problems related to your weight include:

  • Type II diabetes
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Sleep apnea
  • Severe degenerative joint disease (hip and knee pain)
  • Stress incontinence
  • Venous stasis disease
If you Do Not Have Medical Problems Related to Your Weight

If you do not have any weight-related health problems, then you may be a candidate for weight loss surgery if your BMI is 40 or more.
